Let me introduce myself...

My photo
I'm a stay at home mother to 3 beautiful children who provide my with a great deal of joy, and I have a wonderful husband who works very hard to provide for us. Life with 3 young children can be very chaotic and stressful at times. However, I have found that with a little (or a lot) or planning and organization, life can be a lot simpler and happier. I like to refer to this as 'organized chaos!' So now that we're acquainted, why don't you make yourself a nice hot cup of tea, relax and sit down and browse through my blog. Please feel free to drop me a line :)

Chateux a la Bunny!

We spent all day yesterday re-building the rabbit and guinea pig enclosure. Aside from materials we had already bought (namely wire) we finished it using only materials from home...no more money spent on it... thank god! That thing is like a hotel now! Think I might move in ;)
By the time we finished it was very late (9pm) and I realised we needed milk and bread for lunches.

As we hadn't had dinner I was going to call past Maccas on the way back from Safeway but ended up buying a roast chicken (which was reduced by 60% from $10.98 to $4.39).

Tim was a little disappointed when I came home with no Maccas but we had roast chicken sandwiches for dinner and I made some chips at home... even used the potato skins as chips... yum! I also made roast chicken sandwiches for both our lunches for today.

I only used 1/3rd of the chicken so now I can use the rest to make dinner/s (creamy mushroom chicken, soup etc) and boil the carcass to make stock! Now I have at least 4 meals (not including the stock) out of 1 chicken!

A much much better and cheaper decision than getting Maccas which would have only made one meal and would have cost at least 3 times what I spent!

When Tim realised this he was very happy with his roast chicken sandwiches and chip dinner instead of the yucky Maccas! :) Goes to show... maybe my new found SS way of thinking isn't so silly afterall!

Getting the Blog Ball Rolling...

Well, after reading many blogs from fellow members of Simple Savings, I have decided that I will start my own blog. What a fantastic way to chart our progress into living a more happy and simple life, with less stress and more cash!! At least thats the plan anyway!

I've been so inspired by the hints and tips from people on the forum, and have come to realise that I really was spending way to much on food... looking in the cupboards and thinking there was nothing to eat when really the contents could have fed a small country! Even more so how much I was wasting! Not anymore!

I have decided its time to take control of these reins and make a more concerted effort to keep track of spending and learn to Waste Not , Want Not (as in the words of wisdom of the wonderful Lauren!).

The thing which has surprised me is that its not a hard thing to do once you get started. Its simply a case of being more mindful about what you spend your money on. Thinking about it more than once before you hand over those precious dollars... do I really need this? Could I find it cheaper elsewhere or perhaps make it myself?

Anyway, this is the start of our journey. Here's hoping it won't be a bumpy ride!
